In the city of Sahiwal, newlywed Zeba tries to find her place in a marriage shaped by suspicion, superstition, and the weight of her past.
Her husband, Sajawal, grows increasingly consumed by paranoia, while Zeba finds refuge in two unlikely allies: Sohni Ammi, her sharp-tongued but big-hearted mother-in-law, and Bholi, a quiet neighbour with uncanny wisdom.
But Zeba carries a troubling history. Three previous suitors died before they could marry her, leaving behind rumours of a curse. As love, jealousy and superstition collide, the boundaries between the living and the supernatural begin to blur.
Darkly comic and steeped in the sights, sounds and folklore of Sahiwal, Lali is a story of love, fear and the forces—real and imagined—that shape the lives of those caught between them.
