A festival that gets people talking

The Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF) brings bold Canadian and international cinema to audiences across the Greater Toronto Area.

Through films that explore culture, identity, history and the issues shaping our world, MISAFF creates space for stories that deserve to be seen — and conversations worth having.

But the experience doesn’t end when the credits roll.

MISAFF brings audiences face-to-face with the filmmakers, writers, producers and artists behind the work, creating opportunities to ask questions, exchange ideas and experience cinema through the perspectives of the people who made it.

A history of remarkable cinema

Over the years, MISAFF has brought award-winning films, Canadian premieres, international discoveries and emerging filmmakers to GTA audiences.

The festival showcased the long-form version of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Oscar-winning documentary Saving Face and welcomed a sold-out audience for Mira Nair’s acclaimed The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

MISAFF hosted the world premiere of Zinda Bhaag (Run for Your Life), which went on to become Pakistan’s submission for the Academy Awards and received MISAFF’s Best Picture award.

The festival has also created a platform for important Canadian stories. Ali Kazimi’s acclaimed documentary Continuous Journey, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Komagata Maru, brought a defining chapter of Canadian history to audiences through film.

Other MISAFF selections have included India’s Oscar submission Court, Canada’s Top Ten selection Monsoon, the internationally acclaimed Timbuktu, Sundance-winning Umrika, the Canadian premiere of Vashti Anderson’s Moko Jumbie, and Milind Dhaimade’s You Are My Sunday, winner of MISAFF’s Best Director award.
