In Karachi's historic Lyari neighbourhood, two young women are determined to pursue their dreams through football. Afsana pushes against the restrictions imposed by her father, while orphaned Kushmala faces the prospect of a forced marriage. Guided by a former football captain whose own playing career was cut short, they train in secret for a chance to take their ambitions further.

Writer and director Abu Aleeha shot Mera Lyari entirely on location in Lyari, with many local residents and footballers appearing in the film. Aleeha has said the idea grew from seeing girls playing football in the neighbourhood and wanting to tell a story centred on Lyari’s children, culture and sporting identity.

Mera Lyari is a story of ambition, friendship and opportunity, following two young women as they challenge expectations and pursue a future of their own making. Through football, the film offers a portrait of Lyari grounded in its community and the determination of the people who call it home.
