We are delighted to announce that the talented Canadian actor Rakhee Morzaria is our MISAFF23 Star presented by ACTRA TORONTO.

Rakhee Morzaria is an actor and comedian born and raised in Richmond Hill, Ontario and currently based in Toronto. Rakhee has had her sights set on showbiz at a young age having attended an arts school growing up with a love for dance and drama. After graduating from University with an Environmental Science degree followed by a short move to Beijing to work as an Editor, Rakhee would eventually return to Toronto to pursue her passion for comedy and acting. Shortly after, she was accepted into the NBC Bob Curry Fellowship, a prestigious ten-week master program which offers qualifying actors and improvisers from diverse multicultural backgrounds to train and study at Second City. From there, she would get hired on to perform in their Education Company. Rakhee was also part of the Factory Theatre's Factory Mechanical program, which is geared towards emerging actors who have completed a post-secondary theatre training program and is intended to offer the artists both mentorship opportunities and Masterclass training. Rakhee’s first breakout role came in the Canadian Screen Awards and Canadian Comedy Awards nominated web series Note to Self, a project she wrote and starred in. The show which follows Rakhee as she navigates friendships, feminism, and identity in the city of Toronto, was picked up by the CBC and racked over a million in views. Shortly after, she landed a role in Comedy Central's The Beaverton. Since then, Rakhee has appeared in several major film and television productions including What We Do in the Shadows (FX), My Spy (Netflix), Private Eyes (Global TV) and Hudson & Rex (CityTV). She also voices Tall Girl among other characters on the Family Channel’s animated series Summer Memories. Currently, Rakhee is most recognized for her leading role in the hit CBC Comedy Run the Burbs starring alongside Andrew Phung where she also served as the season one writer. Coming up next, Rakhee is set to reprise her role in the highly anticipated second season of the show making its premiere on CBC/CBC Gem on January 4th, 2023. Rakhee is also getting ready to direct and act in her latest film, Scaredy-Cat, a comedic romcom-gone-wrong. The project is supported by the Toronto Arts Council. On the comedy side, Rakhee also performs live and has been featured on the stages of Second City, Hart House Theatre, Bad Dog Theatre, the CBC Music Festival and the Toronto Sketchfest. Her filmmaking, writing and comedy sketches have been seen in Kevin Hart’s Just for Laughs short film competition, screened at the Atlantic Film Festival, and nominated for Canadian Comedy Awards for best writing, best performance and best web-series.

Outside of acting, Rakhee is passionate about supporting women and BIPOC folks in the film and television world frequently donating her time doing workshops to share her tips and advice on how to navigate the industry. She also enjoys eating ice cream, biking around the city and practising Gaga movement and dance.
