opening night red carpet gala
The National Bank MISAFF16 festival presented by ZEE TV opens this year with the brilliant multiple-award-winning film ALIGARH directed by Hansal Mehta and starring Manoj Bajpayee. The director Hansal Mehta and actor Rajkumar Rao will be joining us from India along with a slew of stars from the Canadian and South Asian film industry.
co-presented with the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival
Set in a city of Uttar Pradesh and based on true events, the film is about Professor Shrinivas Ramachandra Siras who taught Marathi at Aligarh Muslim University. Following a sting operation conducted by a TV channel which showed him in an embrace with a rickshaw puller at his house inside the campus, Professor Siras was fired from his job and had to face unsurmountable hurdles and humiliation.
The film screening will be followed by Q & A with the actor. Following this event will be the MISAFF16 reception and opening party. The opening party is accessible with the purchase of the opening night film and party ticket or the film festival pass. It is on a first come, first served basis and we have a capacity to keep in mind for our party location.
Thank you for supporting independent cinema and diverse voices in cinema and a big thank you to the Ontario Arts Council, Cineplex and all our sponsors and supporters.
See you at the movies!
